117 kindergarten
children were armed with disposable cameras and sent out
to take pictures of the 26 letters of the alphabet in their
world. Our kindergartners found the alphabet everywhere!
Letter recognition is an important element of kindergarten
studies and this project married the creative use of technology
with Virginia Beach objectives. The project, inspired by
a book by Arlene Alda, was supported by a grant from the Virginia
Beach Public Schools Education Foundation. Students had
45 days to complete the project. Kindergarten teachers chose
the best representations of each letter from their classes
which became the pool of photographs that created the final
poster.
The "Eye" on the Alphabet posters are ready for purchase. The poster
is a compilation of photographs taken by JBD kindergartners.
The cost for the 18"x24" poster is $8.00. You may order them by sending
cash or check made payable to John B. Dey Elementary. Students should bring
cash/check to the main office. The
proceeds from the sale of the poster will support future kindergarten and other
JBD creative programs.
