When you plan your summer activities, we hope that you remember to add reading to your list of daily activities.  Listed below are several opportunities to help encourage summer reading in your home.

At John B. Dey, we will be sponsoring our annual summer reading program.  This year’s theme is “Hooked on Books.” Students are asked to read a minimum of 8 books or chapters at their appropriate reading level and record the titles on the attached reading sheets.  If extra space is needed, attach a piece of paper and continue listing book titles.  In September, students who return the reading record will be invited to a celebration in recognition of their efforts.

          The Virginia Beach Public Libraries are also sponsoring a summer reading program.  Participants spend the summer reading, winning prizes, attending free programs, and listening to special story times. Be sure to stop by the local library and sign-up for this program.  Each participant receives a free book and other incentives upon completion of the program.
